English Walking Tour – The Tales from Chinatown (Pantjoran) – May 25th 2025
Rp 225.000
The history of Jakarta’s Chinatown dates back to the Dutch East India Company’s rule over the archipelago. During that time, the Company designated a specific area for the Chinese community to reside, keeping them outside the city walls of Batavia (the city’s old name during Dutch occupation) after a racial riot in 1740.
We will visit various sites that bear witness to the existence of the old Chinese community, showcasing the culture that remains robust to this day. Explore the alley with hundred years old Chinese temples and a Peranakan mansion that exhibited their way of life during the olden days. The community has been an integral part of the city for centuries, and the culture has seamlessly integrated with Indonesian customs. We can find a lot of examples of acculturation in language, architecture, and cuisine.
Therefore, let us explore the historical Jakarta’s Chinatown with Walk Indies!
